iv been working for a elec company for 3 years or there about iv passed my 2330 level 2 and 3 and the corse said that i would be qulified to be an elec but the company sez im not are thay haven me on or are thay tell the truth? some other people i know have done the same corse and that run like a one man band type of thing and he tells me i should be so whats going on?

The 2330's are regarded as *not that* difficult to pass as they are, basically, multi-choice type exams. Of course, I accept that some of the Level 3 exams are written, and practical - but you're still allowed to take the Regs and OS Guide into the exam with you. For these reasons, it can be said that a person may be able to guess an answer and stand a reasonable chance of getting it right. I believe that the true value of the 2330's is in giving the student a really good grounding in the general aspects of electrical knowledge.

The 2391-10 is totally different - hence the low pass-rate nationally. It's a closed-book exam, and the 6 major questions in Part B are based on practical scenarios. It's the only exam that anyone has any meaningful respect for because it's so hard. You *really* have to 'know your stuff' to get through this one. In a way it's somewhat like the 2330 Level3, but more spe******t.

My guess is that the 2330's are worth something when combined with the 17th Regs, and some experience (say 1 to 2 years) - and then you're generally regarded as a Sparky. However, this may not be enough to make you stand out from the crowd and give you that 'edge' when asking for a pay increase, etc.

Add the 2391 to your qualifications and you won't look back. There won't be any dispute about whether you're a full Sparky or not.

Check out the grading definitions on the JIB website.....they are used as the benchmark for grades although not the be all and end all.

The 2330 is only the underpinning knowledge which is gained at a training establishment. To be qualified as you say , you must gain the 2357 which is the NVQ 3 [on site evidence]. The JIB will also ask for evidence of completing the new assessment of occupational competence [AM2].
