Fitting a new consumer unit

Hi, I am thinking of fitting a new consumer unit but there doesnt appear to be anything in place to isolate the main supply. Can anyone tell me what I should do? I have only recently been qualified as a domestic installer but so far I havent actually carried out any electrical installations and thought this would be a good place to start. Please help :)

With all due respect If you have just completed training This topic should have been covered and you should know how to go about this.
Iam training and this has all been covered in great detail.
If I was you I would question the quality of training you received and go back to them and ask these question ???.
At the end of the day you do not get a second chance.

If you are trying to get your head around fitting a consumer unit you are certainly not going to be able to test it.I would never knock somebody for trying to work and I would suggest that you work for an electrician and get some expierience .Good luck

what sort of course was it?

Are you talking about a 2-3 year course with C&G at the end of it or are you talking about a 2-3 week domestic installer course, like which the forces run for service leavers which you get an attendance cert for?

like others have said this is the basic things you would have covered on a normal full course.

if you do go ahead and attempt it, which i suggest you do not, i would get as much assistance as possible from someone who is qualified.

first of all if your not sure, do not do it. i do not know what course you took, but i have had many youngsters taking them, and they come out worse than they went in. to be a electrician, you have to have proper training there are no short cuts. call a electrician before you do somethink you regret....
