It may seem a long question but am sure the answer is not long, nobody, anywhere has given me an answer.

Have storage heaters which are never used as storage heaters. 2 storage heaters can also be switched on and off at will for heating, with the heat coming out of grille at top of heater. So far, so good.
One heater in bedroom is turned on as a heater, for about an hour before bed in really cold weather, always on number 3 setting (settings go up to 7). Ugly, brown marks are on wall above heater.

Electrician came in and told me the marks were there because I smoked and had a fluffy cat! He vacuumed the heater taking the front off. Inside the front of heater was also black.

Now I do have a fluffy cat, whom I like very much and she rarely goes into the bedroom. I smoke only in the lounge which has various plug ins that attract the smoke and go brown, which I then clean.

I pointed out that when we took over the flat I knew the previous residents and they neither smoked or had a fluffy cat, which did not go down well.

The other storage heater which can be used as an instant heater the same as the bedroom, has also never been used by us, yet wall was brown when we moved in. Also it worries me that there is an open socket 3inches above the heater, surely that is wrong.

Anyone, who knows something please would you answer, I know you are all busy earning a living, but this particular electrician has made many mistakes including a live wire hanging out of the wall. Please give me an informed guess, I would be so grateful.
