Hi all,
i have recently qualified as a electrician and in my house my consumer unit is about 15 meters away from my meter cupboard/main fuse, in the near future i am going to update the consumer unit as it is fairly dated. it is fed with normal 25mm tails and 16mm earth...now i know if your consumer is any more then 3 meters away from your main fuse it has to have its own separate isolator in the meter cupboard but all i want to know is would i have to renew the other 12/13 meters of tails coming out of the isolator with 25mm split con cable or would it be ok to leave the tails/earth cable in and put them in trunking as they just run exposed across my garage loft space?? reason i am asking is i would like to wire up my garage after the consumer unit has been updated and i may use it for my on-site assessment with NAPIT or NICEIC or who ever i choose therefore would like it to be done correctly! would appreciate any feedback thanks!

yes if you fit a 63amp isolator you can leave the tails in.
i would be inclined to put a small board in the garage (i assume thats where the current meter/connection is) with a 100amp main switch, feed the house off a 63amp mcb/rcbo then you have spare ways in the future for some mcb/rcbos to take your garage power.
