Have you installed any new cabling, is the cabling concealled in a wall at a depth less than 50mm?
If no, then no you don't have to install an RCD.
If yes then you would possibly have to.

Thanks spinlondon the original light was installed in the porch area (ceiling) I simply looped off to feed the two new down lighters which are installed in the ceiling area therefore there was no new cabling apart from the cabling used to loop from the original to the new lights. The joint boxes and cable is installed in the false ceiling area in the porch. Can I assume no RCD?

Will the joint box be accessible?

If not the joints must be maintenance free type.

You won't need an RCD, as the cabling you have installed is not concealed in walls at a depth less than 50mm.
