spotlights.

went to look at a job on saturday. said i would do it.

basically problem is when you turn the lightswitch on for the bathroom lights it tripps the whole lighting circuit.

from my knowledge this has to be a problem with a transformer right??

in whichcase can i get any spotlight transformer (50hz 12v) will it still work with the others???

any tips on how best to approch the problem ???

Hi Dizzy,
Are the spots controlled by just one transformer or individual per light?
The only way to test what is causing the problem is to take down every light and see which transformer smells bad or has blackening on it and replace that one.
If it's just one transformer, then replace it. Make sure that the transformer/transformers can handle the total lamp wattage.
Also, it could be rat or mice damage, go in the loft and check all the cables that feed the spots. If they have been chewed then replace them!
Just one more thing, originally the installer may have designed the spot light circuit to only take 35W lamps and the owner may have replaced these lamps with 50W ones and this could be over loading the circuit.
