Guys, hope you can help.
I am an network guy from the UK who has given it all up for 2 years to work as a volunteer in Ethiopia. One of my jobs here is to help install some small 25 node computer networks in various regional offices, about 700km away from the capital Addis Ababa.
Given the frequency of electrical storms here, the usually erratic electrical supply and of course the cabling best practice, I should get the cabling and equipment racks in each network grounded.
Obviously in the UK I have the luxury of qualified electricians to do all this for me - in fact I don't normally do much horizontal or backbone cabling at all, I'm switch, router and firewall guy.
Here in rural Ethiopia anyone who can wire a plug is an electrical expert! And I am not even sure the electrical supply in the office is grounded, though I guess it must be.
Does anyone have a professional opinion on what needs to be done (in simple language), could I do it (with limited resources) and/or what questions should I ask the resident sparky, when I find him.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but hope someone out there can help :)
Thanks, Alan
