Dont have a copy of the 17th edition and was wondering if someone with a copy could help please.
The job has a 17th edition consumer unit fitted ie, split board each side with its own 30mA rcd and nutral bar. Problems with an old cooker caused one of the rcd's to trip due to excessive leakage current. I got around the problem by replacing the 30mA rcd with a 100mA
As it happens the downstairs sockets are on the same rcd. I noticed on page 10 section 3.6.2 of the 16th edition on site guide that, and I quote, "30mA rcd's installed to provide protection to socket outlets likely to feed portable equipment outdoors should protect only those sockets". Does the 17th edition state the same requirement or will the 100mA be acceptable. 8O

hi if you don,t have a copy of the regs there is no point me quoting them
for cables less than 50mm deep /for all bathroom circuits/ socket outlets/fault protection/
additional protection/ect ect all require 30mA rcd or rcbo replace the 30mA rcd
and then deal with the fault
hope this helps

Yep I guess your right. The root cause is the cooker so it will have to go. Got hold of a copy of the 16th edition from a mate and been through that, Reg 471-16-01 and 412-06-02 (ii) hit the nail on the head---BUGGER!
To be honest I had thought it legitimate to fit a 100mA rcd if troubled by intermittant tripping ---WRONG
The job I refer to is a flat I rent out. Having uprated the consumer unit to make the place safer for my tenant its now highlighted the cooker problem and thats now going to cost lots of £££'s to replace it. Ho Hum, what good's profit anyway, you only spend it.
By the way thanks patspark for your input I appreciate it.
:D
