Hi, I recently tested a job i did after swapping the fuseboard.

My first problem was that the socket rings didnt add up . . the end to end phase was slightly different to the neutral, so i took all the accessible socket fronts off and checked the connections. Everything seemed tight and safe, but still the readings didnt add up.

I carried out all the tests on the ring, and the insulation was fine and the zs also seemed acceptable. Does anyone know what might be the problem here? I think that some of the ring is probably joint boxed under the floor. Is it still ok to certify this circuit even though end to end readings dont quite add up? Would i be better splitting the ring into two radials?

Also i fitted 2 rcd's as all the cables were embedded in building fabric, and the tests on the 0degree were fine, the rcd tripped, but on the 180degree they did not. Does anyone know what might cause this?

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Wha readings (low Ohms) did you get for phase loop and neutral loop and earth loop?

I have had this where the rcd under test did not operate on one cycle. In my case turned out to be a faulty meter.
