I have been working for a property developer wiring one of his houses up he marked the ceilings were he wanted the downlighters then I installed my cables leaving them poking through the plasterboard then he got a team of plasterers in who pushed my cables into the ceiling then skimmed it now they are lost as he didnt pop the holes before the plaster dried and pull the cables down now they are lost I would never be interested in pulling the wires through because if I made holes in the wrong place it would be a ****en opportunity for him to want freebies and/or money off as history repeats its self and this is and old story with him now he has since had decorators in painting the walls and ceilings (in a house were the building work is not even finished) now he has knackered the ceiling finish trying to get the wires through himself and is insisting that its my fault that this has happened and guess what he wants me to work unpaid he says the plasterers say it is not their policy to pull the wires back through as they are not electricians (but as non electricians they can push wires up) I did take note that the plasterers apprentices boarded an upstairs room ceiling after I wired up and they skimmed it too and what is poking through that ceiling in exactly the right places yes my wires

I would like to hear all comments and any puns on this nonsense then I can print it off and make posters

Any decent plaster will not push wires out of sight, granted they like them pushed back in the socket boxes but I think thats fair. The main contractor should not have attempted to find them unless he had a working knowledge of how to go about it. Could you not have lifted boards above? used a metal detector or even just tapped the ceiling listening for a hollow sound? I cannot see that you are responsible in any way shape or form . I would walk away and if nothing else devise a little payback for the spreads. Regards Jimbo

Hi Professor,I have been in similar situations and now I dont chance anything.Drill your spot holes before they plaster,it wont bother a good plasterer. Also leave any other trades notes and get everything in writing with the person ordering the work.I know its a pain but you must cover your back.I have just had trouble with a final rewire price, the customer didnt want to pay for loads of extras and i had nothing in writing so its pointless going to county court,we live and learn, cheers Andy
