Hello All,

I am a recently qualified Part P, let me put this in perspective as I do expect to get a lot of abuse from proper sparkies.

I do not consider myself on any real level a sparkie. I am a plumber, I don't like electrics:mad: and the only contact I have is wiring heating systems and electric showers and the odd bit here and there.

If I am doing a bathroom and the customer wants spot lights etc. I advise them to get an electrician.

HOWEVER, the other day, I had to re-wire a shower and my tools were making life difficult (my blowlamp and spanners were not up to the task), so, here's my question, what are the basic tools I should carry?

Are there specific makes I should buy?

I need to be realistic as I do very little electrical work:roll:

Get your self to B&Q mate.

A set of there own insulated screwdrivers are okay for light work. Only about £7 I think. It what I recommend most apprentices start with.
A set of pliers, snips and maybe some needle nose will also be essential. Again B&Q do an OKAY set. They are 1000v insulate and about £20 I beleive.
If I were you I'd also invest in at the very least a voltage indicator, though a multimeter would be better for you to confirm that the circuit is dead and that you have decent earths etc.
Any decent sparky can do 99% of jobs with out most tools but can I've found I can do nothing with out my bull nose and a 3.5mm flat head.

Hope that helps
