i need to wire up 4 circuits but ive a feeling im going wrong somewhat, i would appreciate it if someone could take a look at my drawings and say if ive gone wrong.

this one is simple enough, SWA from an isolator to the D/B

Another simple one, MICC from D/B to a double socket

This one gets tricky, its 1mm pvc single core blue and 1mm single brown from the D/B to the key switch in the middle and both switches either side and then on to the light on the right, the light on the left is emergency lighting with FP 200 which goes from the key switch to the left hand light.

Next one is a motor circuit, goes from the D/B to a starter switch and then to the motor. ive only done as far as the switch because its easy from there

As i have said, i would be very grateful if someone could take a look through these because i want to make sure theyre right before i go ahead and do them!!

if you need a better description of what is to be done then please ask

Hi.

This wouldn't happen to be for your AM2 exam would it???

but anyway..

im just really unsure about the lighting circuit

Hi there.

Ok so with the diagram you have there this is what will happen -

With the key switch closed you will have a permanent live supply to the EM light and a permanent live supply to your 2 way switching system - so the Em light will be off and the other light will work via your 2 way switches.

With the key switch open, there will be no supply to the EM light or the 2 way switching system - so the EM light will be on (via the internal battery) and the other light will not work at all.

Is this what you want to happen???

well to be honest im not sure whats to happen, we havnt been told anything about the circuits other than the drawing weve been given.

since it is emergency lighting i presume it is to need a supply at all times and should the supply be cut, run off the battery as you said.

what would i have to change in order to get this

Hi.

You wouldn't need to change anything for this to happen as it will work this way as it is.

When there is power to the EM light it is not lit, just charging the internal battery. As soon as power fails i.e in the event of a power cut or switching off the key switch then the EM light will come on via the battery.

so, in laymans terms, it is working as it is supposed to?

Yes pal. Your emergency lighting is wired as it should be and will function correctly.
If its for your AM2 just remember they will be looking for correct glanding of your SWA so remember to use the colloar and bolt for additional earthing.
And NEVER say you are going to "meg" or "meggar" a circuit. They hate this. Say "insulation resistance test"
And also mention "dedicated voltage tester with proving unit" when confirming isolation. Again I know examiners have a hard on for these words. And some really dont like normal terminology.
Oh and last tip. Always write exactly what your meter says when testing. If your IR test says ^1000m dont just write 1000, always use the ^ sign.

Yes, dont let the key switch confuse you, its there to test the emergency light functions when the power is cut.
