Hi

I recently moved to the UK and have experience working as an electrician but am not qualified. I am now wanting to start studying and possibly working while studying in this field.

Please could some one tell me firstly what qualifications I would need to become an electrician and secondly where can I study (preferably through home based studies as i need to continue working) and thirdly what affiliations do I need eg CSCS card etc?

I am totally new to the system and really passionate about going into this field, and want t get it right first time.

Please help!!! :D

Hi Sparkie,

You'll certainly need the city & guilds 2381 and 2391. I downloaded them both from electacourse.com and they got me through the exams, but I had practical experience as well.

Hope this helps

To gain essential electrical qualifications such as the City and Guilds 2382 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 or the City and Guilds 2391 Certificate in Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations. This is a highly flexible method of gaining a good basic grounding of electrical knowledge and allows an individual to study in their own time and in their own home to gain two qualifications that are now seen as essential for practicing electricians. you can find more information at
