Approximate rewire timeline

Hi everyone,

I apologise for this being a general question and I know I can only expect a general answer, but even that would really help!

We are having our house rewired and I'm trying to find out an approxmiate idea of how long it will take.

Problematically the person organising the rewire cannot get an idea of how long it would take before the house is inspected and I'm in charge of booking accomodation for the time period. Without knowing in advance what the time period is I am looking at shorter notice options which are much more expensive in this area.

The house is victorian and it's had alot of DIY wiring done over the years. So I am thinking it will not be the quickest timeline.

Again, I realise and apologise for the fact that this is really general and I obviously wouldn't hold anyone to what is essentially a wild guess! I just have to choose whether to book days or weeks today and I figured someone on this forum would be able to make a better guess than I would!

Well the answer depends on a few things:p

How many bedrooms are there:?:

How many points are you having,existing/adding:?:

Are you having lots of fancy downlights :?:


Are you using a registered /reputable tradesman:?:



I have rewired some 3 bed houses in 2 days others have taken a week;)

There are three bedrooms and the house in large with quite a few rooms.

I'm not sure on the number of points sadly but it;s certainly going to be more rather than less.

yes to the lighting question and the tradesman question.

There are also complications like some of the wiring in the kitchen will involve taking units out to be able to check/change.

Well a ball park figure without seeing the place and assuming a typical rewire team of 3 guys i would say your looking at a week at the least,;)

Also major factor would be how your furniture is situated. If it needs moving around to get access to floor boards etc...this will add to the time...I used to do an average 3 bed semi alone in around 7 days.....My boss would then come in and test the installation and fit the board... I'd say 2 weeks no more. But as already stated if your electrician has got a good 3 man team on it it should take alot less time.

I rewire voids for a living among other things and I generally wire a 3 bed house on my own in 8 days and that is chased in too.

I bet he does a cracking job,wasnt disputing that ,was just surprised at the 8 days for wiring a void,but doing them on his own its understandable

Need two guys for rewires really,imo
