council houses
i not long moved in to a council house that was ment to have a rewire just before i moved in
shame aboout the the old braid flex on all the light fittings
i'm only trained to the 16 eddition of the iee regs any1 wanna bring me up to speed on the lil points i no arn't up to 16th eddition and if they been made part of the 17th ie all sockets on 1 rcb emersion heater on it's own circuit (aas back up for water heater) but main water heater tied in to all the sockets so if sockets trip then the heating gets triped too
just seems a lil unothadox and not even to 16 eddition so i can't beleave this update in reg. would make a house less safe

Re: council houses
Hi Dark King,
You could give your local college a ring and ask them how long and how much a course on the wiring regs will cost etc. You could do a top up course or the full course with an exam at the end.
It would be useful to you as qualifications.
Best wishes
Rex

Re: council houses
I take it you dont want to do the electrics yourself, but you would like a guide to whats right? If its wrong it should be put right by the council not you or your mate!!!
Quickly, the 17th
Nearly every circuit, including lighting, should now have 30 ma RCD protection. There are, of course, exceptions, but good practice tells you to protect them all.
Should be more than 1 socket circuit unless its a very small property.
The most important item of all is a copy of Domestic electrical installation or Periodic Inpsection documents should be located near to the consumer unit.
There should also be a sticker on the board, listing date of next inspection etc and a fairly detailed list of what circuits are there, cable types etc.

Re: council houses
lol haha
Yeah, seriously, you might not want to get too involved when it's your council house. You could be in for an een bigger headache.
It's the councils responsibility to sort it out and get it right, even if they do take the living piss to set things right.
Good luck
