What do i need??????
Hi ppl i work for my dad who does general building work he has asked me if i would do an electrician course but i am unsure of what i need to do to become a fully qualified electrician.I have looked on the internet and come across a few people that do courses such as trade skills 4 u but as i say i dont know what i need to do. he wants me to be able to do the electrial work and be able to sign it off as we have great difficulty getting a electrican in our area and when he gets to old to carry on (wont be long) i will start up on my own.

Re: What do i need??????
hi ya buller,
The most common course to go on is the 2360 course this can be done in many ways, night school probably over 2 years, there is also a course called a DEI course (domestic electrical installer course) this is 2 weeks long, you will get no city and guilds for this though, there are 4 week courses also, you really do need to shop about, but remember these over night courses do not make you a competent electrician.
You then require the 2381 16th edition course ( which will be the 17th edition next year)
Then you will require the 2391 course which is inspecting and testing, you need know your stuff for this exam ie, Regs, GN3 etc as it is closed book exam, 2.5 hrs long and the pass rate so far this year from the C&G inspectorate report is 34%.
Then you will require the Part P competency course
Then you require to be with an Awarding Body ie, NICEIC, napit to be able to self certify your own work, this is not cheap and it is a yearly subscribtion (£500) and they come out and test you every year. If you are not with a self certification scheme then you have to notify the LABC every job you do and they charge you for the privilege.
so alot to think about and will take time to do
hope that helps
anymore advice needed and you can get hold of me on cave061@aol.com
not about for the next 2 weeks though as going to the Falklands, back on the 27th Nov.
