What do they ask??
Has anyone recently done an ELECSA/NIC/NAPIT assessment? What sort of questions do they ask - everyday stuff or really in-depth regulations questions. Are they questioning you for ages or just a few, and are you allowed to refer to your on site guide? I am OK with regs etc on paper when I have a few minutes to think, but can never answer corretly when people are asking questions and expect an immediate answer...... 1 week left and I'm bricking it!

Re: What do they ask??
Hi, for my first NIC dom ins assessment the chap started out asking a couple of questions, Trip times for RCDs at 5X/1x nom current. Max current carrying capacity for various cables.
I think because I answered them all quickly and correctly he started asking harder and harder ones. He got bored before i did.
Last time I had my Approved Assessment was less and easier questions.
Suppose they think they know i can do the job now,
If youve gone with the NIC, they are really friendly and sort of know youre going to be nervous and try to put you at ease.
Make sure youre test meters are working ok, on one of mine my RCD tester started playing up, needed batteries. D'oh

Re: What do they ask??
have had 2 elecsa assesments now with the same person and the guy was really friendly and helpfull and didnt try to catch me out where a niceic assesor may have (just what other people have said to me) . they look at ur qualifications etc and have a chat. he will know within 10 mins if you know what ur on about and will proceed accordingly. try and relax and remember we are only human and can get technical questions wrong under pressure. just read the date of the thread and am probably a bit late lol! hopfully will come in handy for any1 else getting assessed.

Re: What do they ask??
Thanks for all the useful advice above, from all of you. I will be going through this soon and I'm thinking along the same lines.
Just a couple of points I've learned over the years - listen carefully to the questions, and DON'T be afraid to say you're not sure about the answer (and need to refer to the OSG/Regs to get your facts absolutely right) - be honest, and don't try to blag your way out of it. These guys really know their stuff and they won't appreciate their time being wasted by a bluffer.
I can't imagine there's anyone out there who knows *everything* and, if they did, they certainly would be at Consultant level earning mega-bucks and not a humble Sparky trying to start out in life.
