can i write my own certificates
i am a fully qualified electrician except i havnt done the 2391 testing and inspection yet although i do know how to test and inspect as i was taught this by my boss when i was training, ive been working as an electrician for four years now. I read somewhere that you only need to be a "competant person" to fill in the certificates is this right or do i need to get someone else in to certify the jobs for me, resulting in incurring extra costs for the customer, any comments welcome!

Re: can i write my own certificates
to test and inspect you need the 2391 also to sign off part p you need to be registered with a governing body

Re: can i write my own certificates
Not so. There is no requirement to hold the 2391 to carry out any testing or to compile any certificates. Competency is the keyword and holding the 2391 is a sign of competancy but is not essential. The trouble arises when competancy is called in to question and without the relevant qualification it can be difficult to prove yourself.

Re: can i write my own certificates
You may compile your own certificates complying with the requirements shown in the regs, or copy those from BS7671 but you may not use any certificate implying membership of an accredited body like ECA, NAPIT, NIC, etc..
