I am not a qualified electrician but would like to be. I have been stuck as a bus driver for 6 years but was always previously an electronic technician/debug to component level. I have a 3 year HND in Electrical & Electronic engineering which included a very enjoyable skills appreciation of electrical installation course in year 1. I have been installing wiring for family and friends for 20 years. I can add sockets, showers, lighting circuits & new rings in lofts etc.
All to IEE regs but I am not qualified. I want to work legally as an electrician in Scotland as a business being able to change consumer units, provide test certificates, etc. The online C&G 2381 & 2391 look good @ £30 but how much are the exams? I already have a lot of knowledge and experience but what else is required. Do I need other qualifications or membership of SELECT or other body? Do I need very expensive Megger test equipment or are lesser multimeters sufficient to test installations for part P etc.
I would appreciate any advice that can take me from being someone that does a very good job but is not actually an electrician to someone who advertises as a qualified electrician.
I am in Scotland - it probably makes a differance!
