Insurance Inspection
Hello
I wondered if some one could give me some advice please - I run a small car repair garage and my insurance company has requested that I get the electrics inspected. Can you please tell me what would be involved, how long it is likely to take, and how much it is likely to cost.
I have two 3 phase lifts (Ramps), a 3 phase rolling road for MOT, 12 flourescant strip lights, ten sockets in the workshop, 6 sockets in office plus lighting etc.
My landlord told me the electrics were all checked before I moved in but has not been able to tell me who did it or provide me with any paperwork, so I am not sure how long ago or if and when it has been tested.
Thank you in anticipation.

Re: Insurance Inspection
Hi DaPudz, What you will require is a Periodic Inspection Report in order to comply with your insurance company's requirements. A PIR should take around 3 hours minimum to complete. Cost is dependent upon who you use to carry out the PIR.

Re: Insurance Inspection
Hi DaPutz, Normally Cost is Approx. £12 - £14 per circuit.(just count the amount of Fuses or Circuit Breakers in your Distribution Board)
We normally test around 3 circuits per hour, depending on how much tracing is involved and how many points serviced.
Also for insurance purposes, you should have your Portable Appliances tested (P.A.T.) The cost for this is normally per item tested, which varies a lot in price.
If you want things done properly, expect to pay around £1.20-£1.75 per item.Time taken is normally 20 to 25 items tested per hour.
Hope this clears things up.
