My Concern Inspection & Testing ......
Dear All
I have concern about inspection and testing according to 17th addition which will be forced after 1st of July 2008.
My concern is that every circuit will be protected by RCD. This means that most of the distribution box will be changed or it may require full rewiring. As we all know that RCD is a very sensitive device and it may trip very easily if you add to the existing old wiring. I just wanted to share my thought whether I am right or wrong.
Many Thanks
samil

Re: My Concern Inspection & Testing ......
Samil, 17th edition testing is only for work designed after July 1st, so it will be a while before we are testing to the 17th, not all circuits will have to be rcd protected, but it will all become clearer after we get a new OSG. Regards Jimbo

Re: My Concern Inspection & Testing ......
Heads up on this one, RCD protection now is the way to go, its not that everything has to be RCD protected , it doesent, if you can match the criteria requested, so its better just to RCD it. If you quote for a new board put in the quote that if any circuits will not hold up when an RCD is introduced a day rate will be charged to find the fault. RCBOs are coming down in price and soonish will be reasonable, until then main switch, two RCDs and split circuits as much as possible to restrict nuisance tripping. Regards Jimbo
