Default going self employed but so confusing

    hi
looking for a bit of clarity on a few things.

i,m recently self employed and i,m looking to get my ticket so i can sign off my own work.i phoned the niceic and asked what was needed to enroll.i was told 2mill of insurance that they could sort me out , 17 edition pass and 5/8 jobs to inspect.
i asked what qualifications i needed and she repeated 17th ed even after i told her i wanted full scope.i asked her why i had just spent 3 years getting my 2330 but she wasnt interested.
i asked if i would need paperwork for the 5/8 jobs and how i was going to get it if i couldnt sign off.she said the council would do it.when i said it was over 100 pound a time she said 'cause it isnt'.

think ive been stuck in a alternate universe here do i really have to get up to possibly 8 jobs tested throo the council ? is there a way to get around the 100 pound charge if u just hand in the completed documents yourself ? or had the secetary simply been down the pub all dinnertime.

cheers to anyone who can clear this up for me

    dirk

It may be that five to eight jobs are required because you are a new business.
Normally only two jobs are required, one major and one minor.
What a lot of people do, is do the two jobs without pre-notification, and then self certificate them once they have joined.
Remember a job is not technically complete untill the Certificate is issued.

Hi Dirk. I know it can be confusing but it's not so bad really. I've nothing against the niceic but I'm with Elecsa and they make Part P relatively painless and are sound for advice. Try this link http://www.elecsa.co.uk/Contractors/Part-P.aspx
