Scope of part P
Hi, been looking at part p and how it relates to work in dwellings, what you need to notify and what you don't. I'm still unsure however of work outside of dwellings covered by part p. If you are working in commercial or industrial premises do you still need to notify building control of certain types of work or is it ok just to inspect, test and certify it ? Have read up quite a lot on this and have found no answers. Any help would be appreachited. Thanks

Re: Scope of part P
Most work ouside of a dwelling, in the garden, or where cables cross a garden to an outbuilding will require notification.
Work inside the outbuilding (unless it is a special location, such as a sauna) will not require notification, and neither will items of equipment attached to the outside of buildings (such as security lighting or Air Conditioning units), unless there is an exterior connector, such as a socket-outlet.
Pond pumps, garden lightin, exterior socket-outlets lamp posts and electric gates or similar will require notification.
With commercial industrial or agricultural installations notification is only required if a domestic supply shares the same supply as the commercial etc. or there is residentail accomodation within the premises.
Such would be where a shop has living accomodation above, and both are on the same meter, or a pub where staff live on the premises.
If the shop and the living accomodation have separate metered supplies, then any work in the shop would not require notification.
A hotel, hostel or hospital would not require notification, whereas a residential care home or hospice would.
