Re: Combi Drill or Drill Driver?
I'd recommend having 4 types of drill but it does depend on the type of work you do.
1 An SDS battery hammer drill for fixings and light drilling up to 22mm holes. Mine is a Dewalt 24volt SDS but you can get some good deals on 36v ones now.
2 A powerful battery drill for making holes in wooden joists and which takes a core drill for drilling for 4 inch extract fans. Drills with a clutch that slips easily are no good for this. Mine is an 18 volt Dewalt.
3 A good mains or 110 volt SDS drill for drilling larger holes and chasing out walls. The best I've ever had was an AEG (quite expensive) but you can get some good throw away ones from Argos or Wicks for £60-£80. My current cheapo mains drill does all my chasing work and is still going strong after over a year.
4 A luxury for driving screws into anything but becoming a necessity for undoing srews put in by carpenters on site is an Impact Drill Driver. I'm aiming to get a Makita 18 volt set but there are some good deals around.
Regarding the combi question- I'd say share the load between a few drills. Using one drill for everything will soon knacker it!
Hope this helps. What's that all about?- An Electrician's Blog...

Very true Anjela. The same could be said for all tools.
