How to fault find an induction motor ?
Hi, it's my first post here & I'm looking for a few pointer on how to diagnose a problem with a Karcher pressure washer.
The machine was running & working properly when it stopped suddenly. The fuse had blown, was replaced & blew again.
The prime mover is an induction motor with a capacitor. The motor & pump are free to turn. I've had the motor in bits & there's no visible scorching, soot or outward signs of anything wrong. With a new 13A fuse the motor starts & runs for approx half a second & the fuse blows. The resistance across the windings is 1.5-ish ohms measured using a cheap multimeter. I thought this was on the low side but I took the same measurement on another similar machine I have & it measure 1.7 ohms.
My question is how do I diagnose the problem ?
Many thanks in advance, Dave.
