New to the 2330
Hello everyone. Just joined the board and I think i'll get a lot of answers here.
I am panicing a bit. I started the C&G 2330 at Doncaster College in September. Before I started I had no experience in the field and I worked in a call centre. I still do. Now in order to do this course I had to cut my hours down to 25 and I just got my first pay cheque. Ouch. I turned 25 a matter of days ago and the wage is not what you want to be on at my age.
I now have loads of thoughts going through my head about this course. First of all i'm praying that it isn't a total waste of my time. I have tried to go through many routes to get a good trade and only now have I decided to start at the bottom. I'm giving a lot up for this too, but i'm determind to be a success. What are the chances of me getting a job in the industry with my current circumstances? I'm aware that my wage may not improve too much as a beginner, but at least i'd be in the industry.
Call it a wake up call if you will, but at 25, I know that things need to drastically improve. Anyone else done the course and had the same feelings and is it worth it in the end? Also, Doncaster College seems a very poor place to learn. Understaffed and the teachers seem to think we know what they are talking about most of the time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Chris

Re: New to the 2330
hi chris, i am not going to be of any help but am doing the same course at the same college and started at the same time as you, i am doing a full time course which takes 2 years. so far its fairly easy except for being in a class of younger adults! i am nearly 40 and am doing it for the same reason as most older students.
i have been looking at jobs and forums for a while and 2330 is a basic course but provides the fundermental knowledge we will need for the future, i hope to do part P and 17th edition during year 2 as most of it seems to be theory. allot of jobs seem to want 2330/17th/c&g 2391 plus experience.
i sometimes think why am i doing this but hopefully in 3 years i wont be looking back and regretting it.
good luck
chris

Re: New to the 2330
ALL of you-keep it up and keep going at it-it can be a good living once youre established in the game at some shape or form-experience can be hard to come by at first-and its not the sort of game that you can really bluff without serious consequences occurring if you dont think something through-that said-commonsense plays a big part and being humble in the beginning can pay dividends later on-the easiest ways i found when studying for my guilds was to break the questions down as if they were a new language-decode and decipher whats being said and turn it into your own basic - "simple"-language-also with drawings and diagrams-go over them continuously until you can do them with your eyes shut-brilliant later on when youre under pressure-GOOD LUCK-stick with it!!
