Default Help needed with power shower electrical problem

Hi guys, I have a problem with a power shower (newteam nt 1000), when i switch it on it trips the main fuse (not the 3 amp one in the isolater switch) - everything in the house goes off rather than just one circuit. It has been working fine since we bought the house 7 years ago except for brushes which i have replaced
The shower DOESNT heat the water so there is no element.
I have had a look inside but cant see anything 'burnt-out' or whatever.
There is an isolating switch with a 3 amp fuse - this switch is left on 24/7. the trip occurs when i turn the rotary dial on the shower which also controls the hot/cold mix

Any thought on where the problem lies

    Thanks

when you say it trips out do you mean it trips the rcd?
if its the mixer type ie just hot and cold in to a pump (no heating element)
it only takes a spot of water to cause the rcd to trip
    check the front seal
check the water connections at the pump
as i say if its rcd protected it only has to be damp to cause
    an earth fault

try this it may work dry the inside of the unit clean cloth
then use a hair dryer this might solve it temp
if it works then you no you have a very slight
amount of water getting in to the switch
or pump also tighten all connection (isolate power first)

nice work fella, you're a genius.

I opened it up and noticed a tiny drop of water leaking out of the mixer control onto the motor underneath, dried it all out and it worked for a few secs until the water dripped again
