Down Lights ???
I would like some advice please on a problem i have with my downstairs toilet's lights. A few days ago the circuit blew when i turned the afore mentioned lights on. Upon investigation i discovered that the wiring and transformer?(a little black box) for the lights had been placed directly on top of the light and had burnt through. Is this an instalation problem because the company who installed the wiring for the house (its 3 years old) says its out of their 2 year warrenty and nothing to do with them anymore, but surely if it's a dodgy instalation they should be accountable.
Can someone please offer any advice on the situation.

Re: Down Lights ???
I'll say they are accountable. I can understand only guaranteeing the materials for a year but workmanship has no time limit. If as you say it was shoddy workmanship that caused the transformer to burn out then they are responsible for the repair. As the work was only done 3 years ago it will come under part P of the building regs and the electrician will belong to a trade organisation like the NICEIC, ECA or similar. Ask them what they belong to and what their complaints policy is, you could also mention that as you suspect that their work was faulty you are considering getting the whole installation tested.

Re: Down Lights ???
Find the installation certificate and contact either building control or their scheme provider.
I would write to them first however!
