Does Boiler needs separate circuit
Dear All
I hope you are all fine.
I just wonder, according to electrical requlations, do we need a separate circuit just for boiler or can we get power from the shared one such as ring socket. I need to know whether Inspection & Testing will past, if not separate circuit for it.
Many Thanks
samil

Re: Does Boiler needs separate circuit
Samil, boiler can be taken off ring but must have its own means of isolation in close proximity to the boiler ie plug or if a fused spur unswitched. This has come about by British Gas blokes just knocking the switch off and then getting a belt through knocking the switch back on. I dont know if the unswitched bit is in the regs but British Gas will not entertain a contract with a switched fused spur. Regards Jimbo

Re: Does Boiler needs separate circuit
Hi Samil,
Your sentences suggest that english is not you first language, so can I check that you do mean "gas boiler" and not an "immersion heater"

Re: Does Boiler needs separate circuit
i have allways used a seprate circuit for a boiler. ie 16amp breaker from consumer, unit and a fused spur if you use a plug top it can be easyally removed by anyone. and the socket used for any other items. a boiler is a fixed appilance, not portable thats what i learned many years ago.i would never use a plug top. plumbers will because it is easy for them to do. enough said.

Re: Does Boiler needs separate circuit
Hello there
A boiler and heating system does not need a seperate circuit it can be run off a ring main or radial but it must have a means of isolation this can be a plug into an adjacent socket or a SWITCHED fused spur this MUST be the only power source to the whole heating system and controls so when this switch is off the whole heating system can be maintained safely an unswitched spur does not provide a means of isolation read the manufacturers instructions for a boiler and it will tell you the correct way to provide power with a means of isolation
