Garden lighting (rubber flex cables)
Does anyone know about the surface wiring of garden lighting and what spec the cable should be? I've been doing some repairs for a client and she had garden lighting put in about 10 years ago. The main feed is via a burried SWA cable which is fine, but from there the lamps on spikes are fed by rubberised flexible cable which appears to have conductors of 1mm sq. The luminaires are 240V. The problem is squirrels chew through the cable and also the rubber cables are very perished. I can't seem to find info in the regs regarding such cabling. I'm thinking of rewiring it in a higher spec rubber cable and putting that inside flexible conduit. AND of course insisting on adding an RCD to the circuit. I would prefer to change it all over to low voltage but it's cost issue. Any advice?

Re: Garden lighting (rubber flex cables)
your on the right tracks, black rubber and yes flexible conduit is an added barrier, you can get stainless steel if you have the cash available (rs components)
