how do
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Been messing around with wires since i was 15, which is quite a few years ago.
trained in the navy for 9 years and have been a subby since 1982 (was it really that long ago)
qualifications might as well be written in arabic on a peanut if you can believe the trouble i had when trying to explain them to the 12 year old on the end of the JIB phone.
decided not to apply for a grading, have never needed one in over 25 years.
have worked on most types of install, some enjoyable some not.
got my 17th a few months ago, cant believe what it cost to be taught how to read a book that you have to buy yourself!
this looks like a very informative and friendly site, so dont be suprised if i stick my nose in your business.you know what us old blokes are like, we think we know everything!!!

Re: how do
Welcome Grandad, I understand what you mean about the Regs probarbly the only book written that you can buy a book which tells you how to use it. Still that is the way the Industry is going nowadays, JIB? never been asked for a card so I think thats a pass for me. Loads of interesting posts here all we want is a few more members. Regards Jimbo
Never argue with an idiot , they will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

old hands
Hi there! I have been around the industry since 1974 when I started my time...worked on a good variety of installations since, mainly in the construction and commercial sectors...never been asked for a grading card either tho I did have one in 1991...Think that employers can suss a bad spark within a week usually.Seen a few bad ones even with all the paperwork these days..I have worked in Scotland all my days and presently work in Edinburgh(25years) scary!!
