what qualifications do i need

hi i'm new to the fourm.

i own my own business in sliding wardrobes and fitted bedrooms. Every now and again i'm asked to move electric sockets for a customer as the bedroom unit is covering it. I know i'm not meant to move these cause i'm not qualified in electrics, and my insurance won't cover this because of this. I don't really want to go back to tech and spend 3 years doing my nvq level 2/3 as an electrician. what would the most basic couse i could take so i am covered by my insurance and by law to do this?

Do your 17th edition at your local college to cover yourself, then your insurance will cover you because you'll have a C&G level 3 qual.
Then just stick to minor works if thats what you seem to be doing the most of.

And dont let anyone tell you that you need to be this that or the other in electrics, all you need to be is a competent person, not my words, the words of BS7671: 2008 (17th edition)

The best thing to do is take a part p course it will cover you to move a socket.This does not make you an electrician and does not cover you to do any other wiring.But it will cover you on your insurance.Taking a 17 editon when you are not a electrician is madeness .when you do wiring you will be liable in a court of law which can be a fine or jail.So dont take the wrong advice its your life on the line

Hi Max i have addressed this issue of what 'Part P' qualifies you to do in another thread - sorry but you are wrong

in answer to the question, the EAL Domestic installer course would qualify you, and you could register as a 'defined scope level C', which is someone who can alter /ammend existing circuits only (which it soundls like you are planning to do), a Level B can install single new circuits only, and a level A or 'full scope' can do everything up to and including a full rewire
