    Default No earth wires

Hi, I have posted a previous querry regarding the generator wiring on a job I am working on,( thanks for the replies) another strange wiring bit is that this installation does not run earth wires, the installation is single cables in trunking and conduit. I have never seen this before! Comments please!

hi metallic conduit is an acceptable earth conductor as long as it is earthed at source and there is continuity throughout and it is suitably sized

Although it does comply with regulations, it is considered to be bad practice to use conduit as a cpc. This would need thorough testing to prove it is sufficient.

Using metallic conduit as a protective condustor - cpc - is NOT bad practice!!! Any bad practice relates to the poor workmanship and or ignorance in the person installing it. If steel conduit is not used as a cpc all joints and terminations still have to be electrically (and mechanically) sound. WHY? It is an exposed conductive part and as such the integrity of the system still has to be ensured!!
