cscs card or JIB

Hi,

Looking for a bit of info, i am wanting to get a CSCS Card or JIB Card but don't know if i qualify, i am hoping i do.

I served a four year electrical apprenticeship with a Merseyside company
On day release at college i sat my C&G 2360 part1 with a pass.
My 2360 part2 i passed the writen test with a merit but failed the multichoice :-( Never got a chance to sit it again, sounds silly but had a lot of stuff going on at that time.

Moved on from there to an electrical maintenance company for two years Moved on to another company as an maintenance technician for 3 years
Moved onto another company as an electrician / technician where i have been for 10 years. So i have the following qualifications:
C&G 2360 PART1
C&G 2360 PART2 (only passed written exam)
ACOPS (Expired)
C&G 2377 PAT TESTING
C&G 2381 Certificate in 16th Edition Wiring Regulations
C&G 2382 Certificate in 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
IPAF LICENCE (SL SPB)

I'm pretty sure you need to have passed your 2360 Part 2, as a minimum, to get graded as an electrician.

Hi mate....

Anyone can obtain an ECS card (which is the one you want!). The only thing is, is how you will be graded....For instance you must have an nvq 3 in electrical installations to be graded as a full electrician. Part 2 does not count as an nvq 3. I was graded as a senior graded trainee and have the 17th edition and parts 1 & 2 of the 2330. The only other way you can be graded as a full electrician is if you get a reference from an electrical employer stating that you have had at least 2 years experience and you are a competant spark....Now some boss's don't like to do this because it means they will have to pay you J.I.B rates or you will move on to a company that will. As I found out..

CSCS is generally for builders and is run through another company....for sparks the J.I.B ECS is the one.....

Avoid the JIB like the plague! Damn money making scheme. If it was a choice between a JIB company or non - I would go for the non JIB co anyday!

Why....If you are not self employed I.e running a company a J.I.B card is very useful....For one it allows you to work on all sites as an Electrician....as already posted they give you a grade and if you can find a good employer who is J.I.B registered you will get a good wage, one that your qualifications deserve....I respect your opinion but I see it differently.

But there are many, many more non JIB companies that pay more than JIB rates. Who are they to say how much you should get paid? The JIB hold electricians back IMO - it's outdated.

I agree with bikelec, avoid like the plague.
I have every qual up to and including CG2400 inc CG2377 and just done the 17th edition.
I have been part p registered inspector for 5 years with NAPIT.
So, I thought I get the esc/JIB and thats the set if i need it.
What a job trying a get a card ,unbeleivable .
A health and safety test just a start.
And to say they are a money making concern is an understatement.
I approched NAPIT and asked why I was having so much trouble getting a card.
No reasonable explanation from NAPIT who said they are looking into it..
