    Default chance of gettin work

    hello
i am currently working as a data cabler/ usual cat5e and fibre optic stuff, and want to retrain as an electrician i have found the courses i think i need ? ( 2381 cert, part p maybe the 2391 inspect and test ) i am to old and and cant afford to go as an apprentice but im willing to pay and train through short intensive courses !

BUT i have spoken to a couple of mates about this who are time served electricians and they say there companys/boss will not touch me with a barge poll because of the short courses ?
even tho the exams r the same ? they expect everyone to do the 3/4 year college day release !
and i have been told most other companys will be the same ?

why how what should i do ? i cant live on £3 an hour like 16 year old ?
i do not want to waste money on courses that in the real world dont count for sh*t unless u have been a college boy !
    any help, ideas, comments ?

Hi Mate, try to get a job as an electricians mate with a small company that does domestic ,commercial and industrial and put yourself through night school over 3 years.I did that 12 years ago and have worked for myself for 2 years now and doing ok.You will get more money as a mate and your pay will increase as your knowledge and skills do.Bosses are only concerned with what you can do,I have worked with plenty of timeserved blokes of all ages and i wouldnt let them carry my box, because they are crap. The ones that are good, especially industrial lads are great to learn from and if they see you are keen most will help you and its a fact they would rather work with an adult than a kid.You will only learn on the job,not at college( well the one i went to anyway)! keep trying and dont be put off by peoples comments, cheers Andy.
