Qualifications Needed Today?
Can anyone help me with this?
I took my C&G parts A&B thirty years ago but have not worked as an electrician for 25 years. I am starting up a home services business part of which will be to will offer small electrical repairs, minor stuff like replace faulty or damaged outlets etc. I want to know what I need in terms of certificates so that I can do this type of work and conform. I have been out of the UK for a while so lost touch.
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Re: Qualifications Needed Today?
well it depends how much you want to limit your business scope - if you are just changing 'like for like' then I cant see you would need anyhting more than you have now - but the minuite you start changing cables, protective devices etc you almost certainly come under Part P -
with your exisiting quals I would do 17th Edition, which would enable you to get into a competent persons scheme, and the scheme would probably want you to get a building regs qual within a year or so, so thats the EAL Applicable Building Regs for Domestic Installations, or C&G 2393 - both are about half day teaches with an online exam
you could do the full EAL Domestic Installers qual if you need a 'catch up' particularly on the test & inspect side of things

Re: Qualifications Needed Today?
Many Thanks, that is very useful, I think initially I will stick with like for like changes if that does not require any additional certification and then take the courses you mentioned in order to build up my range of services.
Thanks Again

I have checked on line and found reference to C&G 2382, 2391, 2392 and 2377 but nothing on 2393 could you confirm this number?
Thanks

Re: Qualifications Needed Today?
yep, its C&G 2393
Certificate in the Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings - Vocational (No. 2393 )
The primary aim of this knowledge based Level 3 qualification is to enable practising electricians, operating in the domestic environment, to gain an understanding of how electrical installations in dwellings must comply with all relevant Building Regulations.
It is suitable for those working in the building trades and others who require a working knowledge of how electrical installations in dwellings can affect the building construction.
C&G brought it in because they missed a massive trick when EAL brought out the Domestic Installer course, which included the building regs qual, C&G have tried to catch up, but to be honest, I dont think there has been much uptake on this one!
